Position and focus

Seated (chair) · Forearm extensors and wrist

A self-stretch for the forearm extensors and wrist. Support your body and stay within a comfortable range.

Starting position

Sit on a chair and extend one arm forwards with the palm facing down. Rest the other hand on the back of the hand.

Movement phases

1. Reach the arm forwards

Lower your shoulder and straighten the elbow.

2. Bend the wrist

Wrap the other hand around the back of the hand and bend the wrist towards the palm side.

3. Hold the stretch

Stop where you feel a stretch along the back-of-the-hand side of the forearm.

4. Return the wrist

Relax your hand and return the wrist to straight.

What to check yourself

Check that you are not pressing hard on the fingers alone and that your shoulder is not lifting.

Caution

Stop if you feel sharp pain, numbness, dizziness, shortness of breath or anxiety. If you are receiving treatment, recovering from surgery or pregnant, check with your healthcare professional first.
