Choosing a Pilates seminar: preparation and review

Choose one learning goal

Learning basic terminology, understanding a machine setup and revisiting anatomy are different goals. Write down what you want to be able to explain after the seminar. Beginners should check the intended audience; instructors should check the prerequisites and the specific teaching topic.

Six things to check before booking

1. Audience and prerequisites, including qualifications or prior courses.
2. Specific exercises, apparatus and the balance of theory and practice.
3. The instructor’s published background and awarding organisations.
4. Class size, questions and opportunities for individual movement feedback.
5. Materials, recording access and follow-up questions.
6. The total fee, location, equipment requirements and cancellation terms.

A certificate of attendance is different from a qualification that includes assessment. Check what the organiser actually awards.

Online, recorded or in person?

For live online courses, check camera framing, questions and the equipment you need. For recordings, check access limits and feedback options. For in-person workshops, check practical time, available machines and travel. A reformer workshop may require your own machine or allow observation only; ask the organiser.

Use 3D before and after a seminar

Before a course, find the named movements in the reformer library or mat library. During the course, record the instructor’s setup, purpose and observation points. Afterwards, pause the 3D model at each phase and compare those notes.

Differences between the model and your course are questions to bring back to the instructor, not reasons to change your learned method without guidance. The atlas does not award qualifications or reproduce an official training syllabus.
