Position and focus

Standing (wall) · Shoulder flexion and the side under the arm

A self-stretch for the shoulder flexion and the side under the arm. Support your body and stay within a comfortable range.

Starting position

Stand a little way from a wall and place both hands on it at shoulder height. Stand with your feet hip-width apart.

Movement phases

1. Place the hands on the wall

Straighten your arms and soften your knees slightly.

2. Hinge from the hips

As you move your buttocks back, lower your chest towards the floor.

3. Hold the stretch

Breathe where you feel a stretch from the shoulders to the sides under the arms.

4. Stand back up

Press the wall with your hands and bring your upper body upright.

What to check yourself

Check that your lower back is not arching and that there is no pain at the front of the shoulders.

Caution

Stop if you feel sharp pain, numbness, dizziness, shortness of breath or anxiety. If you are receiving treatment, recovering from surgery or pregnant, check with your healthcare professional first.
